ClimeCo Speaks at White House Super Pollutants Summit

Bill Flederbach, ClimeCo’s President and CEO, speaks on Advancing Industrial N2O Action in the U.S. and Abroad.

We are pleased to announce that the White House Climate Policy Office and the Department of State Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate have invited ClimeCo’s President and CEO, Bill Flederbach, to speak at the White House Super Pollutants Summit. The summit occurred today, Tuesday, July 23, from 1 to 4 PM ET at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

The summit was designed to elevate the understanding of the critical role that super pollutants (non-CO2 greenhouse gases and their precursors that are tens, hundreds, or even thousands of times more potent at warming the climate) play in climate dynamics. It also gathered key stakeholders to advance efforts in reducing super-pollutants, celebrate progress on domestic and international action, and unveil exciting new initiatives.

Flederbach participated in the discussion on Advancing Industrial N2O Action at Home and Abroad, where he shared successes and key insights on ClimeCo’s experience as a pioneer and largest developer of nitrous oxide (N2O) abatement projects in the U.S. With N2O being 273 times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere than CO2, these projects play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and improving local air quality by significantly reducing emissions that otherwise would have been released into the atmosphere. He also spoke on the barriers and challenges faced in further decarbonizing hard-to-abate industrial sectors and what new voluntary steps are being taken on the domestic and global N2O reduction front that ClimeCo is engaged in.

The escalating climate emergency poses a dire risk to people’s well-being and economic stability in the U.S. and globally. It’s imperative to take immediate and sustained action to mitigate temperature increases within our lifetime and for future generations. It will take swift measures to reduce super-pollutant emissions, leading to widespread social advantages. These include diminishing the threat quality and severe weather phenomena, enhancing the public’s health, fortifying the resilience of our food supply, generating employment opportunities of superior quality, and protecting communities at risk.
