ClimeCo, a leader in environmental commodity development and management, is proud to announce that our pioneering work in nitrous oxide (N2O) mitigation has been featured in a recent article by Inside Climate News, following CEO Bill Flederbach’s impactful presentation at the COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
At the U.S. Center panel titled “Slashing N2O Emissions: From Science to Action,” Flederbach shared insights into ClimeCo’s trailblazing efforts in industrial N2O abatement, particularly focusing on our expanding operations in China. ClimeCo announced agreements with four Chinese chemical companies to dramatically reduce N2O emissions from their chemical plants. These projects are expected to abate 45 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year – comparable to taking 11 million gas-powered cars off the road or shutting down 12 coal-fired power plants. ClimeCo oversees the installation of pollution-control systems that use catalysts to break down N2O into harmless nitrogen and oxygen gas, achieving destruction rates of 97-98%.
The Inside Climate News article underscores the importance of these efforts. ClimeCo’s work in China represents a critical step in addressing global N2O emissions, which are a potent driver of climate change. As the article highlights, N2O is 273 times more effective at warming the planet than carbon dioxide (CO2) on a pound-for-pound basis and is the third leading driver of climate change.
