BOYERTOWN, Pennsylvania (August 6, 2025) – ClimeCo is proud to announce the issuance of carbon credits for the Togo Cookstove Project, marking a major milestone as one of the first-ever Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) compliant cookstove project to reach issuance. The CCPs, created by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), set a global benchmark for high-quality carbon credits that create real, verifiable climate impact. Backed by a formal Letter of Authorization (LOA) from the Togolese government’s Ministry of Environment, these credits are now available for immediate purchase and delivery.
ClimeCo, in partnership with Arborify and local non-profit AGAIB, has invested into this project to distribute locally manufactured, high-efficiency cookstoves across southern Togo, in West Africa, replacing traditional wood fires and inefficient charcoal stoves.
“This project goes beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions – it has significant health and economic benefits for the local Togolese community, positively impacting over 100,000 households,” said Stefano Borghi, Chairman of Arborify. “This project helps prevent some of the almost 4 million premature deaths caused by indoor air pollution each year worldwide, especially women and children who bear the brunt of fuel collection and exposure to indoor air pollution. We are grateful to partner with ClimeCo in making such a positive impact.”
The Togo Cookstove Project employs a network of over 200 local workers to manufacture and distribute nearly 15,000 charcoal and wood stoves annually. Each stove is made in-country using recycled materials, supporting local industry and reducing environmental impact. Emission reductions are estimated at 0.36 tCO₂e per stove per year, calculated using the most conservative methodology and frequent monitoring under the Gold Standard’s TPDDTEC (Technologies and Practices to displace Decentralized Thermal Energy Consumption, version 4.0) protocol alongside a fraction of non-renewable biomass (fNRB) from the CCP-approved MoFuSS calculations and a 4-1 wood to charcoal conversion ratio.
“These credits are among the most rigorously monitored and transparently calculated in the sector,” said Erika Schiller, SVP of Project Development at ClimeCo. “As we await the official CCP label, we are proud to align with the highest standards in cookstove carbon finance, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to high-integrity projects and credits.”
